What is the HDL2Chips Weekly Coding Challenge?

It is a free weekly timed contest for hardware design learners. Each edition has 5 multiple-choice questions (3 technical, 2 aptitude) and 3 Verilog coding problems graded easy, medium and hard. You get 60 minutes and your score is ranked on a live leaderboard.

How long is the challenge and how is it scored?

The challenge runs for 60 minutes. MCQs are worth 10 points each (50 total) and the three coding problems are worth 100, 130 and 140 points. There is no negative marking and progress is auto-saved.

Do I need an account to take part?

You can browse the challenge page without signing in, but you must sign in with a free HDL2Chips account before the challenge starts so your score is saved and appears on the leaderboard.

Can I practice the coding problems afterwards?

Yes. After each challenge ends, the three coding problems are added to their practice categories on HDL2Chips within 48 hours so you can retry them at your own pace.

What topics does the Verilog challenge cover?

Problems are drawn from combinational logic, sequential logic, finite state machines, shift registers, counters and waveform analysis - the same categories used in VLSI and RTL design interviews.
